a genuine craftsman - the artistic blacksmith - Georg Braumuller |
| Born in Austria. Already as a boy he was fascinated by the beauty of the wrought iron work which graced the century old buildings of his home town. At the age of 15 he decided to become an apprentice and learn the art of blacksmithing (art smithing - Kunstschmied). In 1955 he chose Melbourne for his home. He worked and saved until he had enough means to revive this old and honoured craft in the country of his choice. |

Today he is a leader in his field. He uses the old traditional way of rivetting, binding and firewelding. The painstaking attention to detail is evident in all his work from the hand forged nails and bolts to delicately hammered roses. His philosophy of blacksmithing is to be open-minded for the latest. A visit through his showrooms is like a tour taken back in time through Europe. This website represents only a small selection of the articles for sale in the gallery especially as new and different designs are being frequently added. Georg's gallery is situated in the heart of the Puffing Billy country at the Belgrave Art Stockade, 64-68 Monbulk Road, Belgrave, Victoria, Australia. Numerous examples of his work are already in many homes, and his wrought iron art decorated historical places, churches, restaurants around Australia, Tasmania and overseas. Georg is a member of the Australian Blacksmiths Association and has won many prizes including the Founders Award 2000. Choosing a hand forged art work would bring joy and enrichment to this modern world where machine made products dominates. |
